The Westin St. Francis is sited right in Union Square. It consists of two towers that are connected on the lobby level. The two main event spaces sit atop the taller tower, offering incredible panoramic views of the San Francisco skyline. These spaces were renovated to have a more contemporary aesthetic in 2018, allowing for more modern wedding styles. The St Francis Suite in the lower tower still has the more classic aesthetic. Sometimes couples have their ceremony there, or simply use it for portraits.
The Golden Gate Ballroom is the main space for most Westin St Francis weddings. It sits on the 32nd floor overlooking the bay towards the north and downtown towards the east. When possible, I love taking advantage of this space for a first look or some portraits once the set up is ready.
The Mission Bay side is commonly used for ceremony and cocktail hour. The views out towards downtown San Francisco offer a dramatic and gorgeous backdrop beyond the floor-to-ceiling glass windows. It can also be used for a reception space for more intimate weddings.
If you’re looking for a more classic look for your ceremony or family formals, the tower along Powell St features the St Francis Suite. The beautiful wood panels offers a dramatic aesthetic alternative to the ballrooms atop the main tower.
Just outside are a couple of choice spots for wedding party and couples portraits. I love using Maiden Lane. And I always check to see if my couples want to sneak out during the reception, get some fresh air, and take advantage of the streetlights just outside.
