Isla Bella Beach Resort Wedding | Florida Keys Destination Wedding

Ekta + Dan | Marathon, FL

Some connections go back a long way. Ekta and I first met over twenty years ago — she was shadowing at the architecture firm where I was interning in Jacksonville. Both of us just starting out, no idea where we’d end up. So when she got engaged to Dan and asked me to fly out to the Florida Keys, I didn’t hesitate.

Their celebration at Isla Bella Beach Resort was a two-day event that wove together both their cultures. The night before was a sangeet — colorful traditional umbrellas suspended from the ceiling of a clear tent, rich lounge furniture below, family and friends performing dances and music. It was joyful and alive in the way only events like that are.

On the wedding day I started with both of them getting ready. Before Ekta put on her outfit, she had a quiet toast with her closest friends just outside her room — one of those small moments that doesn’t make it into every album but should. Her look was part mermaid-inspired, ocean-blue and gold. Standing at the water, it made perfect sense.

The ceremony was on a wooden deck extending over the water. Clear chiavari chairs on the beach, string lights in the palms above, a violinist playing as guests took their seats. The turquoise water did the rest.

After the ceremony, the reception moved into a clear-top tent strung with thousands of lights. Vibrant florals, music that honored both cultures, and a sparkler exit to close out the night.

This is what I love about destination weddings — the setting pulls everyone in. The celebration feels more deliberate. Guests aren’t just there for a few hours. Everyone’s present for something that unfolds over days, somewhere worth traveling to.

Congratulations, Ekta and Dan. Thank you for having me out there.
