This series of Tokyo photos is a bit long overdue, but I’m actually pretty excited to finally share some of my favorite images from a (relatively) recent trip… Last December, I had the pleasure of visiting Tokyo for the first time with a couple of great friends (and fellow photographers, Russell Edwards and Jennifer Michelson). While I love and am eternally grateful that I get to be a photographer for a living, it’s rare that I can immerse myself into the art I fell in love with years ago for just myself, without the pressure of getting “the” shot. We spent just a few days in Tokyo before I had to come back to do some shoots before the holidays (and to see Star Wars), but it was plenty of time to see some amazing scenes and eat some delicious foods. I was most struck at how beautiful Tokyo looked at night. With such high density of light features, it was sensory overload and photography heaven. I also loved the integration of lush parks and gardens amidst what could have ended up being a concrete jungle. It was hard to narrow down photos for this post, but here are some favorites from the trip. Oh, and for any of you gear-heads out there, all of the following Tokyo photos were taken with a Sony a7R II with assorted lenses: Sony FE 16-35 f/4, Sony FE 70-200 f/4, Sony FE 55 f/1.8, and the Sony FE 35 2.8. Enjoy!
