Whether you're planning to have a Napa Wedding or an intimate backyard celebration, the luxury photography experience is about how you're taken care of from the booking process through delivery of your images. Since beginning my photography business, I've learned that capturing genuine moments in an artful way requires much more than having a "creative eye" and the ability to hit the shutter at the right time.

The key is TRUST—from the couples I work with, as well as your family, friends and the other vendors you've booked. Weddings can be complex with a lot of key characters and a lot of moving parts that may shift in the moment. Understanding how to navigate changes on the fly or mitigating risks through communication are part and parcel to my services.

"...we can't express enough how wonderful it was to work with him!! He was able to perfectly capture the magic of our wedding day and ensure that he photographed all of the aspects we were looking for."

"Duy is a true artist and professional. He has the unique ability to capture the full essence of the moments on camera. Everyone who has seen our photos agrees - Duy is truly gifted. Don’t second guess booking Duy, you will not regret it!!"

before the wedding

Consider me a resource for all things photography-related. I'm here to answer questions around timing for getting ready, portraits, and a number of other things. I will also guide your expectations around what can be accomplished, what are the pros and cons of various decisions, and remind you of potential logistical obstacles that you might not be thinking about. I like to schedule two calls prior to the day (particularly if you're not working with a full planner):

  • INITIAL CHECK-IN - One month before the wedding: Broader discussion around timing for things like getting ready, wedding party photos and general schedule. We can also go over any inspo-pics/aspirations you might have and assess whether additional coverage may be needed. Additionally, we will address any schedule/logistics concerns that haven't been covered through prior email correspondence.
  • FINAL CHECK-IN - One week before the wedding: Walk through the timeline and confirm final details to make sure everyone is on the same page.

CHECK, CHECK. ONE, TWO.

I am an absolute sucker for genuine moments and truly candid photography. However in the context of the wedding, I recognize that sometimes a little nudge in the right direction or some guidance that can help the aesthetic while preserving the moment can greatly enhance the odds of delivering images that capture the spirit of the moment in a beautiful way. As much as I can, I'll be hands off, but if I think I can intervene without disrupting the experience or moment, I will. Sometimes this means moving furniture around in preparation for a shot, or chatting up the wedding party to get people loosened up a bit!

documentary-ish

after the wedding

While you're off honeymooning (or mini-mooning), I'm getting the initial cull underway to pull out some sneak peeks for you within 24-48 hrs after the wedding! The images are also being backed up into the cloud overnight as an additional safety measure. The final edits will be ready 6-8 weeks after the wedding and you'll receive the link to your gallery to view and download images in both color and black & white. I guarantee at least 1 year of image hosting after the wedding, but encourage you to download and have your photos backed up as soon as you can. Couples can expect 75-100 images per hour of coverage, but this can vary depending on what happens throughout the day.

Over the years my photography and editing style has continually evolved and refined itself. I tend to gravitate towards "good light" when I can and work with the environment in order to have as ideal base to start with in the editing process so I can focus mostly on cropping/straightening for composition, color-correction, exposure and contrast adjustment with minimal localized edits. My preference is to keep the images mostly true-to-life color with a little kick in contrast. You can see some before/after below of raw files vs edited.

Sometimes people get inspired by images from other weddings and that's totally okay! We can discuss what you can realistically expect based on differences in venue/location/weather/etc. But I try to accommodate and put my own spin on things!

frequently asked questions

There is no fee for travel in the SF Bay Area. Depending on distance, accommodations may be required for weddings outside this coverage area.

For weddings, I book first come, first serve. If I'm available and you'd like to confirm booking, I recommend booking as soon as possible to ensure availability.

I strive to keep colors fairly close to reality, with a little bit of pop. While in some lighting conditions, colors may shift, photographs taken in natural light will have mostly accurate colors (See samples above)

Copyright, which I retain after delivery, is what allows me to use the photographs for my portfolio, blog, online publications, etc. Printing Rights, which you receive, allows you to use the files delivered to print at your own vendor or at home

You will receive all edited photographs via digital download. The files may be cropped for composition but all images will be high quality images suitable for printing without watermarks. Typically, couples can expect 75-100 photographs for every hour of coverage
