On a trip to Cuba in 2019, I visited the Malpaso Dance Company for one of their rehearsals. Their dance troupe primarily works with Cuban choreographers blending Cuban culture and modern dance. I admit, I don’t know much about dance, but I really enjoyed seeing the rehearsal and experiencing an impressive display of talent. While visiting, the director permitted us to document the rehearsal. One aspect that resonated with me was that the first half of the class was dedicated towards the basics, technique and classical dance. But when they performed their exhibition, it was all very contemporary in style, but you could still see the influence of classical ballet integrated with the movements.
